about Jimi
Drummer/Percussionist/Composer Jimi Englund is a native of Whitewater Wisconsin. After graduating from Lawrence University in Appleton Wisconsin he moved to Minneapolis with his band Spangalang. After a fun run with Spangalang, Jimi and his college buddy Joel Sayles started their band Hindu Rodeo along with guitar player Dirk Freymuth. They recorded two records together and during that time Jimi played and recorded with many local artists including Jeff Arundel, Billy McLaughlin, Stewart Davis, Peter Mayer and Lori Line.
While on a trip to LA Jimi saw an ad for open call auditions for the Broadway show STOMP and decided to give it a shot. After about 10 call backs and a month long wait, Jimi was asked to join the touring cast of STOMP . His dream came true and after a year long tour he moved to Los Angeles where he continues to live today.
Some of the drumming highlights since moving to LA include playing and recording with singer/songwriter Peter Himmelman, Garrison Starr and an original member of Dan Finnerty and the Dan Band. Jimi also played percussion on Robbie Robertson's (The Band) 'How to become Clairvoyant' record. He was honored to work with Producer Walter Afanasieff (Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey) on sessions for Barry Manilow and Eric Benet. He also worked with Producer EMAN on tracks for Nick Lachey, Clay Aiken, JC Chasez and Joey McIntyre. Jimi also worked with Film Composer John Powell (The Bourne Identity, Shrek, Ice Age, The Italian Job...) on movies 'Mr.&Mrs Smith', 'Horton Hears a Who', 'Jumper', 'Be Cool' and 'Stop-Loss'.
As a composer Jimi has written hundreds of songs for various Music Libraries and continues to have his music used on a variety of TV shows and commercials. Jimi also co-scored music with friend Greg Herzenach for the movie Detective Fiction and Fish in a Barrel.
While maintaining his own recording studio Jimi continues to write and record on numerous projects of all types.
